Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children Maryland, along with all 50 states and DC, is a member of the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children to ease the transition for students and to ensure that there are no barriers to educational success imposed on children of military families because of frequent moves and deployment of their parents. The Maryland State Department of Education and our twenty-four local school systems have a long history of establishing effective policies, regulations and procedures that address enrollment and serve to ease the transition of any student who transfers into or out of our schools. Maryland enthusiastically joined the Interstate Commission in 2009 to demonstrate our commitment to easing the transitions of children of military families. We are proud of our membership in the Compact and of our support for the military child. As a member of the Interstate Commission we have the opportunity to dialogue with other member states on the Articles of the Compact and identify best practices to ensure that we address the educational issues associated with the frequent transitions that a student of a military family must make. Information on the Interstate Compact can be found on our website or please visit the Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission (MIC3) website. Should you have questions about the Compact, please do not hesitate to contact Mary Gable, Assistant State Superintendent and Maryland Commissioner for the Interstate Compact, at 410-767-0473 or mary.gable@maryland.gov. We look forward to working our military families.
Sincerely,
Lillian M. Lowery, Ed.D.State Superintendent of Schools
