Baltimore, MD (January 21, 2016)

The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, January 26, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m. 

In addition, the State Board has scheduled a separate information session on Monday, January 25.  It also will take place in the State Board room, beginning at 11 a.m.  The meeting is not a full board meeting and no votes are scheduled.

Items on the agendas of the two meetings include the following:

Monday, January 25 - (Cancelled due to the winter storm.)

11 a.m.                        Work Session
The State Board will listen to an overview of the Maryland legislative process, followed by a discussion of the intersection of laws and regulations governing Maryland public education and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act/ Every Student Succeeds Act (11:45 a.m.) and an overview of the Division of Rehabilitation Services (12:30 p.m.)

Tuesday, January 26 - (Cancelled due to the winter storm.)

9:10 a.m.         Graduation Rates
The State Board will hear a report on the 2015 high school cohort graduation rates, as well as the cohort dropout rates.

10:30 a.m.       Science Education
The State Board will hear a report on Maryland’s implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards, adopted by the Board in 2013, as well as plans for new assessments aligned to the learning standards.
