Anne Arundel County’s Belle Grove Elementary has been named a National Title I Distinguished School for the 2014-2015 school year.
“Belle Grove is committed to promoting a positive learning environment for all students, and its success speaks volumes,” said State Superintendent of Schools Lillian Lowery. “The school has strengthened student achievement through data analysis, improved professional development, and increased community involvement. The recognition and attention are well-deserved.”
The school, located in the Old Brooklyn Park community, will be honored by the National Association of State Title I Directors at the National Title I Conference in Salt Lake City on February 5.
Title I is the largest federal aid program in K-12 education. Schools use Title I funds to improve the education of students in high poverty areas. MSDE administers Maryland’s Title I program and nominated the school after a thorough review of student achievement data based on the Maryland School Assessments and the State’s accountability data.
Belle Grove serves 265 students in grades PreK to 5. Eighty-seven percent of the diverse student body is eligible for free- or reduced-price meals.
