Media Alert: Maryland State Board Of Education To Meet On Friday, February 12

The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Friday, February 11, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m.
In addition, the State Board has scheduled a separate information session on Thursday, February 11. It also will take place in the State Board room, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The is not a full board meeting and no votes are scheduled. The two meetings had originally been planned for Monday, January 25 and Tuesday, January 26, but the massive weekend snow storm postponed the meeting.

Thursday, February 11
8:30 a.m. Work Session
The State Board will listen to an overview of the Maryland legislative process, followed by a discussion of the intersection of laws and regulations governing Maryland public education and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act/ Every Student Succeeds Act (9:15 a.m.) and an overview of the Division of Rehabilitation Services (10 a.m.)
Friday, February 12
9:10 a.m. Graduation Rates
The State Board will hear a report on the 2015 high school cohort graduation rates, as well as the cohort dropout rates.
10:20 a.m. State Superintendent Search
Search firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates will provide an update on the search, including information gathered during the recent public forums and through a survey.
2:40 p.m. Science Education
The State Board will hear a report on Maryland’s implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards, adopted by the Board in 2013, as well as plans for new assessments aligned to the learning standards.
