Media Alert: Maryland State Board Of Education To Meet On Tuesday, February 23

The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 23, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m. 

Items on the agenda include the following:

9:05 a.m.         State Assessments
The State Board will take a look at the relationship between state assessment scores and college admission test results.  In addition, board members will hear a report on the 2015 state assessment results, comparing the success of students who took the exams on paper and those who took them online. 

10:25 a.m.       Education Funding Adequacy
The Bridge to Excellence Act, which emerged from the work of the Thornton Commission, was designed to ensure that education funding was adequate for all students to meet State standards.  A follow-up study on Bridge to Excellence is currently being conducted, and the State Board will hear a report on its progress.

1:50 p.m.         Juvenile Services Education
The State Board will hear an update on the Juvenile Services Education System, its current focus, and plans for continued improvement.
