Media Alert: Maryland State Board Of Education To Meet On Tuesday, March 22

Baltimore, MD (March 18, 2016)

The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 22, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m. 

In addition, the State Board has scheduled a separate information session on Monday, March 21.  It  will take place in Conference Room 6 on the 8th floor of MSDE, beginning at 8:30 a.m.  This is not a full board meeting and no votes are scheduled. 

Items on the agendas of the two meetings include the following: 

Monday, March 21
8:30 a.m.         Information Session
The State Board will listen to an overview of the mode effect related to State assessments, followed by a primer on Maryland’s Bridge Plan for Academic Validation (9:15 a.m.), and an update on the Maryland Science Program (10 a.m.).

Tuesday, March 22
9:05 a.m.         Graduation Assessment Requirements
The State Board will discuss the State assessments for high school students. Board members will be considering a number of questions regarding the assessments in English 10 and algebra in the coming months.

10:20 a.m.       Every Student Succeeds Act
State board members will be provided with an overview of the Every Student Succeeds Act, the latest iteration of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act signed into law late last year.  The report will center on state requirements under the new law.

11:05 a.m.       Fine Arts
The State Board will hear an overview of the Governor’s P-20 Leadership Council Task Force on Arts Education in the Maryland Public Schools Final Report.
