The Maryland State Department of Education will host a Twitter Chat on March 24, with MSDE specialists responding to questions about the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) currently being rolled out in classrooms throughout the State.
The standards are a set of performance expectations in science, which place particular emphasis on content, critical thinking, and science and engineering practices. The Maryland State Board of Education adopted the NGSS in 2013, noting that the new standards provide additional rigor that will better prepare students for college and career. A number of Maryland educators were involved in formation of the standards, and are now working on implementation.
Maryland schools have started implementing the NGSS and building curricula aligned to the standards. The NGSS will be fully implemented by the 2017-18 school year.
Twitter followers @MdPublicSchools are encouraged to ask questions and participate in the discussion using the hashtag, #MSDEChat.
