Baltimore, MD (March 26, 2014)

Several dozen student leaders will take part in a tutorial of the new Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career (PARCC) test during this week’s Maryland Association of Student Councils conference in Ocean City.

More than 60 middle and high school students will be trying out sample test questions on the technology platform that students are using on the PARCC field test currently taking place in Maryland schools.  While the students will not be taking part in the actual field test, they will be answering practice questions that approximate the assessment experience.  The questions use computer-based tools such as drag-and-drop, multiple select, text highlighting, and an equation builder.

Maryland and 11 other States are scheduled to switch to the PARCC exams in 2014-15.  The new, computer-based assessments, covering English language arts/literacy and mathematics in grades 3-8 and at the high school level, are aligned with the new Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards, which were built on the Common Core State Standards.
