April 12 Event at UMBC to Focus on Computer Science Education

Baltimore, MD (April 7, 2016)

More than 200 educators, industry leaders, and legislators will gather at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) next week for the state’s largest Computing Education Summit.

The Summit, organized jointly by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and UMBC, aims to create a blueprint for expanding student access to computer science in Maryland schools.

MSDE Interim State Superintendent of Schools Jack Smith will launch the Summit at 9 a.m. on April 12 and UMBC President Freeman Hrabowski will give the keynote address at 12:20 p.m.

Throughout the day, education and industry experts will lead sessions covering topics such as Maryland’s computer science initiatives, preparing computer science teachers, and the importance of computer science education throughout all levels of schooling.
