Media Alert: Maryland State Board Of Education To Meet On Tuesday, April 26

Baltimore, MD (April 22, 2016)

The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, April 26, at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore. It will be held in the State Board room on the 7th floor beginning at 9 a.m. 

Items on the agenda include the following: 

9:50 a.m.         GED Update
Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulations Secretary Kelly M. Schulz will present the annual report on the GED testing program and National External Diploma Program.  DLLR oversees those programs in collaboration with the State Board.

11 a.m.             Milken Honoree
The State Board will recognize Angela Malone, a 7th and 8th grade science teacher and science department chair at Prince George’s County’s Oxon Hill Middle, who in February became the State’s latest Milken National Educator.

11:20 a.m.       ACHIEVE Report
ACHIEVE, a national education nonprofit, has evaluated the nation’s states on a variety of college and career readiness metrics.  Achieve staff will report on Maryland’s performance.

2:45 p.m.         Assessments
The State Board is scheduled to act on a request to publish amended regulations that govern scoring for the PARCC English 10 and Algebra I assessments as they relate to graduation from high school.
