Maryland has been awarded a four-year, $6.9 million federal grant designed to further improve data-based instruction across the State. The State will receive $1.15 million in the first year.
The U.S. Department of Education made the announcement today. Maryland received the competitive grant under the Statewide Data Systems program of the U.S. Department of Education, which enables State education agencies to design, develop, and implement longitudinal data systems to efficiently and accurately manage and use data.
Maryland’s project will better link educational databases, from PreK to higher education, to improve outcomes for students. The project targets improving state capacity for utilizing data for instruction across the State’s educational spectrum. It will help the State identify issues with data systems and drive enhancements that will strengthen evaluation and research along with instructional support.
The Maryland State Department of Education joined with the Maryland Longitudinal Data System Center, Maryland Higher Education Commission, University System of Maryland, and the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation to develop the proposal.
