WHAT:  The Maryland State Department of Education and the Maryland PTA have been holding a series of Regional Information Sessions on the Common Core State Standards, providing an opportunity to meet and hear remarks from State Superintendent Lowery, PTA President Leone, and others.  The audience will have a chance to submit questions in writing about the Standards.  The fifth information session will be in Allegany County, with a final session scheduled later this month in Calvert County.

These sessions provide parents and the public-at-large an understanding of the Common Core initiative. These Standards establish a rigorous set of shared goals and expectations for what students should understand and be able to do in grades K-12 in order to be prepared for success in college and the workplace.  The Common Core State Standards form the foundation for Maryland's new State curriculum frameworks, which are being implemented in all Maryland schools this school year.
