Media Alert: Maryland State Board of Education to Meet December 10

The Maryland State Board of Education will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, December 10 at the Maryland State Department of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore.  The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in the 7th floor Board Room.  Items on this month’s agenda include the following:

9:10 a.m.         Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
The State Board will hear a report on the progress being made on the STEM education strategic plan, and MSDE’s collaboration with other partners in this effort.  The State Board also will review a proposed regulation that would add a certification endorsement for a STEM instructional leader at the elementary school level.

9:35 a.m.         Mathematics Education
The State Board is scheduled to act on an emergency regulation that identifies high school courses that comply with the requirement for four years of mathematics at that level.

9:50 a.m.         National Assessment of Education Progress
The State Board will hear a report on the Maryland results on the most recent administration of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), an exam given to a sample of students nationwide in reading and mathematics.

10:25 a.m.       Educator Evaluations
The State Board will hear a report on educator confidence with the new Teacher and Principal Evaluations.

2 p.m.              Special Education
The State Board will hear a report on MSDE’s Division of Special Education/Early Intervention Services strategic plan.
