The Maryland State Department of Education today launched “T.O.Y. Stories,” a biweekly blog from the State’s Teachers of the Year.

“Maryland is fortunate to have some of the nation’s finest educators at work in its public school classrooms,” said State Superintendent of Schools Lillian M. Lowery.  “T.O.Y. Stories aspires to elevate the voices of Teachers of the Year from throughout the State and captures their thoughts, practices, and ideas about many aspects of teaching and learning.  Teachers’ perspectives are an important part of the public dialog on education”

“T.O.Y Stories” will cover a range of topics selected by teachers, from instructional strategies for increased achievement to thoughts about educational innovation.  The teachers’ blog posts are not endorsements.  They serve as valuable perspectives and insights from public school classrooms.

The first blog post came from Marlo Coppage, a mathematics teacher at Queen Anne’s County High School, where she was named 2013-14 Queen Anne’s County Public Schools Teacher of the Year.  She writes about the importance of positive parent engagement.

Her T.O.Y. story marks the first of a number of regular blog posts that will be hosted on MSDE’s website and shared via social media.
