Teams of educators from local school systems will investigate best practices in internal and external communications at Maryland’s “Promising Principals Academy” next week . Mike McCurry, former press secretary to President Bill Clinton, will keynote the first day of a unique two-day training event, featuring national and state communications experts.
The Maryland State Department of Education’s (MSDE) Promising Principals Academy Winter convening is entitled “Building and Executing Effective Communications Strategies,” is MSDE is hosting school leadership development training activities throughout the year for eight-person teams from each of Maryland’s 24 local school systems, plus the 48 members of this year’s Promising Principals Academy.
McCurry is a partner at Public Strategies Washington, Inc., where he provides counsel on communications strategies to corporate and non-profit clients. A veteran political strategist and spokesperson, he also served as spokesman for the U.S. Department of State, and director of communications for the Democratic National Committee.
MSDE is hosting Promising Principals Academy trainings throughout the year as part of a leadership development program supported by a federal Race to the Top grant.
